The Ultimate Weekend Getaway Guide to Collingwood and the Blue Mountains

The Collingwood area has so much to offer – from lush green trails in the summer, fresh powder in the winter for ski enthusiasts, and world-class spas and just about everything in between.
What to Do in the Winter
Collingwood boasts many different ski terrains for the novice to expert skier. With many private clubs, and the popular all-access Blue Mountain Ski Resort and Village.
After hitting the slopes warm up with a drink at Rusty’s, a popular outdoor apres spot at the base of the mountain.
If you aren’t the winter sports type, or just want to relax, head to the Scandinavian Spa to enjoy their thermal baths and specialty massages. Tip: Book your massage in months in advance for guaranteed access to the thermal baths. Or, if you are only looking for bath access, go 30 mins to an hour before opening as space is limited.
What to Do in the Summer
Sometimes you just need a weekend away from the city. Collingwood offers many of Ontario’s finest hiking trails and paths, many along the scenic Georgian Bay.
If you are craving adventure, the Blue Mountain resort offers high and low tops courses with zip lines through the trees. Ever watch MTV’s The Challenge our Fear Factor? The high ropes course offers that kind of adrenaline rush!
If you are looking for some fun in the sun, Wasaga Beach is also a short drive away and offers endless shallow sands and freshwater to splash in. Don’t forget to bring a floatie and your cooler!
The Westin Hotel gets my top pick for accommodations. It is truly ski-in/ski out and offers ski lockers with rooms. They also have an outdoor pool and hot tub, which are perfect after a long day on the slopes.
Mosaic Suites gets my second pick. They have great townhouse-type accommodation if you are traveling with larger groups and they also are ski-in/out. Mosaic also has a pool and hot tub. My only gripe is that check-in is at 4 pm, which is so late.
The Grand Georgian is also an excellent choice. Good selection of basic rooms at an unbeatable location. They also have an outdoor pool and hot tubs.
Overall, I strongly suggest staying in the village. The taxis in the area are scarce at peak times and there nothing like being able to walk in and out of the all of the action.
If you are open to driving, some beautiful accommodations can be found on Airbnb.
Rusty’s is the top choice for nightlife in Blue Mountain Village. During the day they offer a large outdoor seating area at the base of the mountain, and at night it turns into a busy bar. Expect long lineups if you arrive after 10pm. Table service is recommended for larger groups. The crowd is 19+. Dress code is casual.
The MJ Byrne’s Irish Pub is the main pub in the area. The crowd is casual and typically 25+. There are often live bands playing your favorite throwback cover songs.
Smash is a nightclub located under the C&A Steak Company steakhouse. The crowd gets going at 11pm, and is similar to Rusty’s.
Kaytoo is your choice is you are looking for a dance floor but also want to keep some personal space to chat with your friends. The crowd is 19+.
Restaurants In the Village
My top choice would have to be Tholos. Traditional Greek dishes are served alongside live entertainment and belly dancers. Tip: Order the saganaki for a fiery spectacle!
The Fire Hall Pizza Co. is another great option for casual dining, with crowd-pleasing favorites such as pizza, pulled pork, and classic American cheeseburgers.
For breakfast head to Royal Majesty Espresso Bar Bakery. They have excellent pastries and smoothies. If you are feeling extra hungry, head to The Pottery Restaurant for a delicious all you can eat breakfast spread.
Restaurants in Collingwood
Azzurra Trattoria offers quality Italian dining in a rustic, charming setting in downtown Collingwood. Choose from delicious pasta and pizza to decadent desserts. This is a surefire place to impress your date.
Mountain Shores Pizza offers one of the cheesiest pizzas I’ve ever eaten. Call ahead to order and pick up to bring back to your hotel, or grab it for the drive home. I often drive out of my way for this decadent super cheesy pizza!
